Position: Senior researcher at the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic
Specialization: Electrochemistry and related analytical methods and sensors
At the NANOCON´24 conference Karolina Schwarzová will present the invited lecture “Structured Diamond Surfaces for Development of Electrochemical Biosensors” in the Session C – Bionanotechnology, Nanomaterials in Medicine.
Personal Background and Education:
Karolina Schwarzová graduated (MSc. degree) in analytical chemistry and didactics of chemistry at the Charles University, Faculty of Science, Czech Republic (2001). She received her Ph.D. in analytical chemistry (2006) under supervision of Prof. Jiří Barek at the same university, thesis: "A contribution to the determination of nitro, amino, and hydroxy derivatives of naphthalene using electrochemical methods". During her PhD studied, she completed research stays at the Oswaldo Crus Foundation (FIOCRUZ) by prof. J. Moreia in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2002, 4 months) and at the Michigan State University in the group of Prof. G. M. Swain (2004, 6 month), one of inventors of boron doped diamond electrodes.
In the year 2020 she completed her habilitation (Associate Professor) in the field of analytical chemistry.
Currently she is the senior research scientist at the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Charles University, Prague.
Research interests:
Research interests of Karolina Schwarzová are concerned with development and characterization of new electrode materials and arrangements for sensing of organic compounds with large interest in carbon-based materials, studies on mechanism of electrochemical oxidation or reduction of redox-active organic compounds and miniaturization of electrochemical detection devices.
The latest research focuses on development of sensing platforms based on boron doped diamond applicable in batch and flow through devices for analysis of environmental, pharmaceutical and clinical matrices.
Summary of publication activity:
She is author and co-author of >70 publications in international peer-reviewed journals; about 20 presentations in conference proceedings (indexed in WoS) and 18 chapters in monographs.
More than 2.450 citations and H-index: 29 (WoS, January 2024).
